How Will USA’s Newcomers Perform?
Glancing through the rosters, there are some newcomers. Names like Ashley Steenvoorden, Claire Donohue, Katy Freeman, Matt McLean, and Jimmy Feigen have limited – or no – international experience in a major swim meet. This experience is invaluable. Some of these swimmers will be major players this coming summer in Omaha at the Olympic Trials. The last thing Team USA wants is to select swimmers who have no experience wearing a “Team USA” swim cap. This Duel allows these swimmers a chance to be exposed to the spotlights, the cameras, the media, the exposure, the fans, the competition. It is invaluable. I’ll anxiously be watching our superstars, but more so, I will be cheering on these less experienced swimmers. I think a few of them, like Donohue and McLean, could have big-time impacts very, very soon.

Be sure to tune in Friday and Saturday to watch the Mutual of Omaha Duel in the Pool LIVE. The event kicks off Friday on Universal Sports at 7pm EST, and on Saturday at 2pm EST on NBC.

Congratulations to the great performances of the kids this weekend. We swam almost all best times.
Now onto some of our stellar performances:
Logan Graumann (100 free, 52.62) and Ryan Burcham (200 fly, 1:54.59) qualified for the NCSA Jr National meet in Orlando. Zeke Carnes was runner-up high point winner for 13/14 boys at this meet. Individual event winners include: Logan Graumann, 100 free; Ryan Burcham, 200 fly; Zeke Carnes, 100 back, 100 breast, 200 breast, 200 IM; and Cameron Bard, 50 free.

have the late warmup on Friday and Sunday at 8 AM and the early on

Hey everyone,
The Baylor meet is this weekend so there will be no Saturday morning
practice. Our warmup times for Baylor this weekend are as follows:
Saturday AM (13 and over): 7 AM
Saturday AM (12 and under): approximately 10 AM
Saturday PM (13 and over): approximately 2 PM
Sunday AM (13 and over): 7:30 AM
Sunday AM (12 and under): approximately noon
Remember, be at the pool 15 minutes early to stretch and be ready to get
in the water at those times. We have limited time/space to warm up and we
need to take advantage.

Now onto the Excel Meet of Champs in Nashville December 2-4. Entries for
this meet are due by Tuesday the 15th of November. I strongly recommend
the older kids attend this meet, as we will be resting for it. This meet
also requires certain entry times so it is not a suitable meet for your
first one (however, the Pilot invite in January in Knoxville is a perfect
first meet and is much closer). The meet fee will be $75.

World Class Swimmer Claire Donahue Comes Home To Talk to Her BLAST Family After Earning Two Gold Medals at the Pan Am Games

We are all proud of Claire. The whole BLAST family is happy for her. She earned a Gold in the 100 butterfly and the 4x100 medley relay in the Pan American Games in Guadalajara, Mexico. Claire has been training at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colo. She started swimming for BLAST when she was 11 years old.

The Baylor meet in Chattanooga is approaching quickly. Entries will be due on Sunday, October 30th. The meet takes place on November 12 and 13. At this meet the 13 and overs will swim in the morning and the younger ones will swim in the afternoon (the older kids do a split session on Saturday).
Also the team t-shirts are still available for 10 dollars. We will be ordering them soon so t-shirt orders are due by Friday. I have order forms still so just grab me at practice if you want to order one or many.

We have the ACAC Meet in Oakridge this weekend. I'm looking forward to
some good efforts in the water.
Make sure you're entered in the meet if you signed up. Also we will NOT
have practice Friday afternoon or Saturday morning because of the meet.

Here is our warmup schedule before the meet:
Friday night at 5 for everyone in those events
Saturday morning we warm up at 7:20
Saturday afternoon we warm up at 11:40
Sunday morning we warm up at 6:45
Sunday afternoon at 11:40

Be there ten minutes early so we're ready to get in right when we can.
Remember we have limited time/space so we have to warm up well here.

Morning sessions include events for 8 & Under Girls/Boys, 10 & Under
Girls/Boys and 11-12 Boys. Afternoon sessions include events for 11-12
Girls, 13-14 Girls/Boys and Senior Women/Men. If the meet is delayed from

Second Fastest Women's Butterfly Swimmer in the Nation

As a Senior (2010-11): Claire Donahue capped her WKU career with another record-setting season in 2010-11. Donahue finished second in the nation in the 100 butterfly with a school-record time of 51.68 seconds. The individual finish is the highest in school history and improves on her fourth-place finish as a junior. Donahue also placed 14th in the 200 butterfly and competed in the preliminaries of the 50 freestyle at the NCAA Women's Swimming and Diving Championships. Donahue was named the 2011 WKU Student Athlete of the Year and first-team Mid-Major All-American by CollegeSwimming.com. At the Sun Belt Conference Championships, she swept the 100-and 200-butterfly events, completing a four-year run where she won both events. Donahue won the 100 fly with an NCAA automatic qualifying mark of 51.95 and the 200 fly with an NCAA provisional qualifying mark of 1:57.77. She also won the 50 freestyle and tied a Sun Belt record with her time of 22.72 in the preliminaries. Donahue was also part of the 400 freestyle and 200 medley relay teams that set school records at the conference meet. She did not lose a 100- or 200- butterfly event and finishes her career as the school record holder in the 100- and 200-butterfly.

We are getting ready to head down to Nashville for Southeasterns tomorrow.

FROM ATLANTA, KNOXVILLE or CHATTANOOGA AIRPORT: Take I-75 to I-24 and follow the signs towards Downtown Chattanooga; exit at Belvoir Ave./Germantown Road; the exit will put you on North Terrace Ave. parallel to the interstate; go 0.8 miles to Germantown Road; turn right on Germantown Road; go 0.7 miles to Brainerd Road; turn left on Brainerd Road; go 1.0 miles, through Missionary Ridge Tunnel; immediately after passing through the tunnel, take the first off-ramp to the right (marked Highway 17), before the overpass; at the bottom of the exit ramp, turn left onto Dodds Ave.; campus entrance is 1 block on the left.

For those of you going to Asheville,

Here are directions and the heat sheet:

Address is 360 Asheville School Rd, Asheville

I-40 east to exit 44 in West Asheville.
At the bottom of the exit ramp turn left on Patton Avenue (also called
Smokey Mtn Hwy).
The school is on the right in about a mile.
You will see the campus on the right just after the "Whispering Pines"
Motel. Lowe's is on the left.
The main entrance to the campus is on the right at the bottom of the hill.
Come up the hill and through the guard gate. Once you get to the main part
of campus the gym is on the left.
Pool is at the back of the gym.

Hope everybody has a great Christmas. The practice time will be earlier Friday New Years Eve and and no practice on New Years day. Details on the time on Friday will be posted later. Also another swim meet has been added to the schedule at the end of January in Asheville. It will be a one day meet. More details to come on date and time later.

Hey team,

Just a reminder that there are no mornings this week. If you are going to
the Excel meet, then you don't need to be to practice on Monday and
Wednesday until 7:00 because we will only be doing some light dryland, no
lifting. No practice on Friday or Saturday, as we'll (the coaches) be in
Nashville. Let's have a great week this week,
